This
is the holy season of Advent, which means waiting.
What are you waiting for today?
When Jesus
was born in Bethlehem two millennia ago, the world had been waiting a
long time for a Messiah. But when He came, they hardly noticed. You see, Jesus didn't
look like the answer to their prayers and so they rejected Him. And yet God, who loves us
more than we can ever know, knew that Jesus, His Son, was exactly what we needed
--- the One who would live among us for a while, suffer as we do, and then
pay the ultimate price for our sin so that we didn't have to.
Oh
yes, Jesus is most definitely the answer to all our waiting.
We just don't recognize Him as such. We would rather fend for ourselves,
taking our chances in the world at what we can see, feel, hear and touch. Maybe that
person is the answer, maybe that job will fill the void, maybe that new house will
make us feel worthy and special and important and LOVED.
And
those answers might satisfy ...for a while. But as this first
year of the
new millennium winds down and we review our past and dare to dream about
a future, I suspect that some of us feel empty. We are still waiting.
With
Christmas the waiting was over.
This Christmas your waiting could be over. Maybe this is the year you finally
turn your life over to the One who created you and has wonderful plans for you
"plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." (Jeremiah 29.11)
So....what
are you waiting for?????
